Hi Kids,
Did you know that you have an “energy body” that supports and enlivens your physical body? It’s made up of “energy centers” that spiral up and down your body. Cool, huh?
When you pay attention to these centers, you feel good all over and have lots of extra energy. It’s a whole new way to look at your body which is lots more than just skin and bones.
My friend, Megan, wrote all about the “root” center in the following article. Her husband, J.J., drew a wonderful picture of a child whose legs are like roots of a tree. Check it out below!
Megan and J.J. will be sending SPRTYE Magazine more lively descriptions of your energy centers called chakras (sounds like sha-craws). There’s six more, ending at the very top of your head or the “crown.” Makes you feel kind of kingly or queenly, doesn’t it?
Have fun with this!

The Root Chakra
by Megan Woolever
Your root chakra is located at the bottom of your bottom. When you sit cross-legged on the ground, your root is what touches the floor. Sometimes your root chakra may feel like it is buzzing and very excited. People may say you act like you have a fire under your bottom, or ants in your pants, and you just can’t sit still. That is your root chakra talking to you. It wants some attention.
When your root chakra is happy, it helps you feel tall and strong and sturdy. When it is sad, sometimes you may feel alone or weak or small.
Your root chakra likes to skip and dance. It likes to jump up and down and bounce a lot. It loves to stand barefoot and wiggle its toes in stuff like mud, sand or grass.
And, RED is its favorite color!
You can also feel your root chakra down in your feet. Sometimes it feels like nice warm water running down your legs. Sometimes it feels like tingles in the bottom of your feet.
If you stand really, really still you can feel your feet sending roots down into the ground like a tree. If you are feeling really excited or antsy, it helps to stand like a tree and imagine your root sending all that extra energy down into the ground…like tree roots to feed the earth.
Here is something
fun to try. Sit on the floor and hold your feet. See if you can feel your root
chakra pretending to have roots like a tree.
Say “HI” to your
root chakra. It’s here to support you wherever you go!
